BASED IN CAPE TOWN AND FEATURED ON THE RUNWAY AT PARIS & CAPE TOWN FASHION WEEKS, SHAKALULU IS A HIGH-END UNISEX BRAND FOUNDED WITH A DESIRE TO EXALT STYLE as AN ARTISTIC EXPRESSION OF CREATIVITY AND IDENTITY.

 Inspired by the the cultural influences that have most affected her life-path and the formation of her eclectic eye, while being conscious of the problematic trends in fashion and pop-culture to irreverently appropriate and fetishize non-mainstream art forms, the designer's methodology as an anthropologist and a creative draws heavily from her own personal experiences, extensive travels and ethnographic work, leading her to focus not only on the makings of clothing, but more specifically on the meanings of the garments. 

Shakalulu’s philosophy aims to reverently celebrate the multi-directional influence of cultural backgrounds on modern art forms, such as fashion, all the while contesting those imagined notions of cultural boundedness and singular identities thought to represent each of us. 

Combining these philosophies, along with a precise attention to the aesthetics and functionality of design, each garment is intended to be a proclamation of beauty, which allows the wearer to also experience abundant freedom in self-expression, ease, comfort, and movement.
